Our Mahi
We are inspired by His Majesty the King's vision and have created programmes and partnerships that fit uniquely in our motu.
Enterprise Programme
The Prince’s Trust Aotearoa New Zealand runs a number of different programmes to assist with getting young people to where they want to go.
Before we launched in Aotearoa New Zealand, we travelled the country and asked young people what they thought about their future.
Young people told us they were concerned about their prospects, and we saw that as an opportunity to support taiohi wanting to test their ideas, and either launch a business or explore getting a job. We believe supporting young people to investigate entrepreneurship is going to make the greatest difference to Aotearoa.
The Enterprise Programme supports young people aged 18-30 and has four key dimensions; a short training workshop, mentoring, funding, and networking that sees alumni stay connected and continue to be supporting by us and each other.
Get Hired Programme
The Get Hired Programme is targeted at helping young people get into jobs; primarily by running a skills workshop to teach useful skills for getting hired into today’s workplace.
These bespoke workshops are a great way to get yourself ready for work, creating opportunities for the future.
The Prince’s Trust Aotearoa New Zealand provides Get Hired workshops which explore the strengths, interests, and skills that young people have and look at how they are transferable into a range of employment, volunteering, and entrepreneurial opportunities. The focus is on identifying the capabilities young people already bring, and developing awareness around how to complement, grow and apply these in a range of potential pathways. Our workshops are interactive, engaging, grounded in reality – and fun! Participants have found them a positive support when considering next steps. Some of their inspiring takeaways include “It’s okay to not know what you want to do – just start somewhere”, “Say yes to opportunities” and “Don’t be afraid to change things up”.
Achieve Connect Programme
We are building our capacity to deliver specialist workshops and streamed seminars in collaboration with our global network of partners at The Prince’s Trust.
In our very first Trans-Tasman collaboration, The Prince’s Trust Aotearoa New Zealand and Prince’s Trust Australia co-hosted school students, educators and special guests at Achieve Connect.
Around 40 students and teachers from St Peter’s College in Gore and Hagley College in Christchurch joined with young people from Bold Park Community School in Western Australia.
The two-hour Zoom workshop, run out of a TV studio in Melbourne, was designed to transform lives and prepare the next generation with the mindsets, skills and capabilities they will need to thrive in this rapidly changing world.
Student Volunteer Army (SVA) founder Sam Johnson joined for the live panel discussion, along with Tarsh Ieremia-Poching from Auckland Rugby League. Sam and Tarsh spoke about navigating a nonlinear career and how to live with passion and purpose. Their advice generated some great tips for students. The recording above was captured during the panel discussion. Kim Swann, HOD Careers at Hagley College, said it was absolutely something they would do again.
Students used the interactive online tool Padlet to share these reflections in real time via the Achieve Connect workspace.
The pace and content were spot on and the feedback from the students was they all enjoyed it. Not a word about finishing their school day at 3:45. Even better they expressed a keen interest to meet up again as a group to continue exploring careers ideas. It was brilliant 😊
