Ngahere Dick

––

Ngahere Dick always wanted to start her own skate wear brand, but knew she needed business skills and help to go alongside her creative talent.

In March 2021, the 22-year-old took part and completed The Prince’s Trust New Zealand Enterprise Programme in Whangarei, Northland.

The course, for young entrepreneurs, covered business ideation and gave participants tools needed to shape and form their ideas into a reality.

Ngahere says she was lost when it came to the financial side of starting and running a business and The Prince’s Trust New Zealand course helped her with what she needed to know.

“It helped with starting a business, intellectual property and a big thing in the creative industries around how do you actually price your work.” Ngahere says.

Ngahere’s skate wear brand Sawmill does focus on t-shirts, skateboards and apparel and will initially go on sale at a pop-up store in Whangarei.

The Prince’s Trust was the first certificate that I ever got in my whole life and Mum loaded me in the car to get a frame while the print was still hot,” she adds “it was a really proud moment not only for me personally, but to show it to my family.

Ngahere believes she is now well underway on her journey and that positive things are starting to happen for her.
