LAUNCHED 9 MAY 2022

WHAT IS HE KĀKANO?

He Kākano is a $2-million seed fund for young entrepreneurs aged 17-30 years.

It is a unique partnership between The Prince’s Trust Aotearoa New Zealand (PTANZ), The Ministry of Youth Development (MYD), business and taiohi.

$1 million is being donated by government, via MYD, which is being matched dollar-for-dollar by private philanthropy/business.

He Kākano is a positive economic response to the Covid-19 global pandemic initiative and invests in the future of business. It will grant funds to 100+ young entrepreneurs over the first 2 years.

In the year since the launch of He Kākano we have been inundated with applications for funding from young entrepreneurs.

So far, we have funded 72 youth-led businesses and we have more waiting to pitch to our panel.

We believe the response from young people shows the reality of the current economic crisis and that young entrepreneurs have unique and inspiring ideas about how they want to live their lives.

THE PRINCE'S TRUST GLOBAL GALA

THURSDAY | APRIL 27TH, 2023 | NEW YORK

BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

The inaugural Prince’s Trust Global Gala in April 2022 was chaired by Global Ambassador and Chairman of the Global Ambassador Board, Lionel Richie and Edward Enninful OBE, Global Ambassador and Editor of British Vogue. Their support helped attract some of the influential names in fashion and entertainment, resulting in global media attention and social engagement.

The event brought together our young people, supporters, Patrons and friends to celebrate the work of The Prince’s Trust. The funds have now been distributed to The Prince’s Trust charities around the world – including supporting our ‘Enterprise’ work in Australia, Canada, Greece, India, Jamaica, Jordan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Rwanda & UK.

Funds have also been allocated to explore support for young people in the United States. We are thrilled that both Lionel Richie and Edward Enninful will both co-chair the Gala again in 2023.

EVERY YOUNG PERSON SHOULD HAVE THE CHANCE TO SUCCEED

The Prince’s Trust was founded in the UK in 1976 with the vision that every young person should have the chance to succeed, by being given the appropriate tools.

That vision remains unchanged today. Our programs support young people and underserved communities on their journey from education to employment, empowering them to build their own futures.

The Trust also delivers employability and enterprise programs for military veterans and indigenous groups. Together, our mission is to transform lives and build sustainable communities worldwide. To date, we have supported over 1 million young people around the globe.
